Hundreds of people gathered at the Federal Building in Westwood on Sunday afternoon to protest against the Iran Nuclear Deal waving Israel and American Flags. The Iran Nuclear Deal seeks to curb the country’s nuclear programs in return for a lift on sanctions.
The agreement was brokered by the Obama Administration with Secretary of State, john Kerry at the forefront. The Congress has 60 days to review and ratify it.
The protesters argued that it was a terrible deal and that the huge amounts of money received by Iran as a result of the lifting of sanctions will be used to fund terrorist groups against America’s closest ally, Israel.
The deal aims to keep Iran from producing enough material for an atomic weapon for at least 10 years and imposes new provisions for inspections of Iranian facilities, including military sites.
The nearly 100-page accord, reached after long, fractious negotiations, marks a dramatic break from decades of animosity between the United States and Iran, countries that have labeled each other the “leading state sponsor of terrorism” and “the Great Satan.”
“I can say with confidence, but more importantly nuclear experts can say with confidence, that Iran will not be in a position to develop a nuclear bomb. We will have met our number one priority,” President Barack Obama said.
The deal will take effect unless Congress blocks it, which Republican leaders hope to do.
