SEATTLE, WA, June 03, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — BlackPast.org is proud to announce its first grant of $10,000 from H-E-B, the largest grocery store chain in Texas. Founded in 1905 in Kerrville, Texas but now headquartered in San Antonio, H-E-B now has 420 supermarkets throughout Texas and Mexico and is ranked by Forbes as the sixth largest privately held company in the United States.

In making the announcement Tanique Evans, Chair of the H-E-B Diversity & Inclusion Team, wrote “It is our sincere hope that our support will help…[make] a site that promotes factual black history, a success.” She added, “For over 115 years H-E-B has contributed to worthy causes through Texas and Mexico, and we continue to support our community as strongly as ever…”

Founder and Interim Executive Director of BlackPast.org, Quintard Taylor noted that this grant, the latest in a series of donations from major corporations including Boeing, Microsoft, and Eli Lilly, signals the growing recognition by Corporate America of the crucial role BlackPast.org plays in the education of our global audience on the history of people of African ancestry from the United States and virtually every other nation in the world.

BlackPast.org (www.blackpast.org), founded on February 1, 2007, was conceived to provide reference information on people of African ancestry in the United States and around the world. BlackPast.org is supported by a volunteer staff and nearly 1,000 volunteer content contributors from six continents. The website has the equivalent of 10,000 pages and is free and ungated. New features are added regularly.
